A REVOLUTIONARY ARTIST
VICTOR VASARELY

In the permanent exhibition hall, Arkas Art Alacati hosts an important selection compiled from the Arkas Art Collection of Victor Vasarely, the most important representative of the Op Art movement. In the Arkas Collection, the Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) exhibition was prepared to shed light on the artist’s different practices at different ages.

There is a relationship that has been going on for long years between Arkas Art and the Vasarely Foundation, which was established in an impressive building constructed with the artist’s own design in Aix-En-Provence in 1976. As a result of this collaboration, Arkas Art Center in Alsancak hosted Vasarely’s retrospective exhibition in 2017, opening his painter, designer and theoretician identities up for discussion in a holistic way. 2018, right after the exhibition mentioned above, a selection compiled from the artist’s pieces of work in the Arkas Art Collection started to be exhibited in an exhibition hall named after Lucien Arkas in the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence.

The Vasarely collection in Arkas Art Alacati also shows how the artist transforms shapes and lines into a sense of “movement” in the eyes of the viewer.
